Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society<br />Governor Champion: Laura Parsons

Nominated by Governor Laura Parsons, the Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society was chosen by the CREB® Charitable Foundation's Board of Governors to receive a $25,000 grant, presented on March 29, 2012.

Appropriately named “Awo Taan”, which means “shield” in the Blackfoot language, the shelter is blanketed in a unique atmosphere where the traditional wholistic and spiritual teachings of the Aboriginal people’s Medicine Wheel are practiced. This approach benefits Aboriginal women and their children in helping them through the healing process within the comfort of their community.

The Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society provides a continuum of services for individuals impacted by family violence. The Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society’s vision is “Nurturing families, Living in Peace” and the mission is to provide emergency shelter and outreach services to women and children affected by family violence.

With 27 beds, this full service emergency shelter provides services to women and children from all cultures who have suffered from family violence and all forms of abuse. The shelter operates 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and is run by a dedicated staff of 33.
