Backgrounder: The Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation
- REALTORS® give back to the communities they live in, and one way they do this is through the Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation.
- Via fundraising initiatives held throughout the year, the Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation funds are allocated to shelter-related initiatives.
- Since its inception in 1987, the Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation has contributed more than $4 million to a wide range of charities and non-profit organizations in our community.
- Made up of a membership of more than 5,300 REALTORS® and community members, the Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation exists to promote the charitable and philanthropic activities of its members as well as to provide funding to shelter-related initiatives in Calgary and area.
- From 2005 to 2007, the Foundation, in partnership with the City of Calgary and the Governments of Alberta and Canada, focused on funding a single capital project. Through donations from Calgary and area REALTORS®, and citizens of Calgary and surrounding communities, the Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation contributed $1.5 million to the building of The Crestwood Affordable Housing Development in the community of Millican–Ogden. This 60-unit apartment complex now houses low-income families and individuals with physical disabilities.
- Every year the Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation receives numerous applications for funding and through a rigorous evaluation procedure by the Fund Allocation Committee of the Board of Governors, determines how much financial support will be distributed for that year and to whom. In 2009, $77,000 was distributed to four charities to fund shelter-related initiatives.
