Since its inception in 1987, the Calgary Real Estate Board^® Charitable Foundation has contributed more than $3.5 million to a wide range of charities and non-profit organizations in our community. Made up of a membership of more than 5,300 REALTOR® and community members, the CREB® Charitable Foundation exists to promote the charitable and philanthropic activities of its members as well as to provide funding to shelter-related initiatives in Calgary and area.

Every year the CREB® Charitable Foundation receives numerous applications for funding and through a rigorous evaluation procedure by a committee of the Board of Governors, determines how much financial support will be distributed for that year and to whom.  In 2010, $100,000 was distributed to the Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter, Hospice Calgary Society, and Inn From the Cold.  $500,000 was also provided to the Brenda Strafford Society in support of the "Building For Liberty" campaign.

On November 29, 2010, the Charitable Foundation made a $5,000 Crisis Fund donation to the family of Diego Van Der Pennen. Diego is a little boy with a very rare disease that requires round-the-clock care. Because his mother is taking care of him full time and his father has just started a new job, finances are very tight and they are now behind in their mortgage payments and are in danger of losing their home.

In May 2010, REALTORS®, through the Calgary Real Estate Board Charitable Foundation, announced they will be donating $500,000 to the Brenda Strafford Society for the Prevention of Domestic Violence for the building of a unique housing and commercial project, the first of its kind in Canada.
